which always seemed within your enthusiastic reach

yet something inside you would not let defeat come so easily
you came back for more with a dreamers determined glee
taking all the punches daily life had to give you all the more
never looking for an exit for you had been through that before
defeat was no longer a taste you would resigned savor
it was now high time to set things finally right
there was more to lose than routine living
you were fighting for more than you tonight
true you might have been merely one fighting the powerful few
but your cause was truly just thus it was the least you could do
even in your darkest moments when despair seemed to claim victory
you came back with dogged determination to continue to struggle
for your own and others liberty not because everyone loves a hero
